Personal Brand

Is building a personal brand worth it for your business?

Okay, let’s be honest. The words “personal brand” can feel a bit cringe. Especially if you’re a CEO or founder who didn’t exactly sign up to be a content creator. You started a business to solve a problem, build something cool, or make a real difference — not to become an internet personality.

But here’s the thing. Whether you’re comfy in front of the camera or prefer to lurk in the background, people are looking you up. Clients, investors, potential hires… they want to know who’s behind the brand. And if your online presence stops at a 2012 LinkedIn profile with no profile pic? That might be doing your business a disservice.

So, do you need a personal brand? Not in a “drop everything and start vlogging your life” way. But having a clear, consistent presence online — one that reflects who you are and what you stand for — can be a massive game-changer.

Let’s break it down.

Why a personal brand actually matters

People trust people more than they trust businesses.
You could have the slickest website in the world, but your audience still wants to see the human behind it. Showing your face (or your thoughts, or even your dog — people love that) builds credibility and connection.

You’re the voice of your values.
What do you believe in? What does your company stand for? Your personal brand gives you a space to talk about the things that matter most — not just sales and services, but mission, culture, purpose.

Opportunities follow visibility.
Speaking gigs, press features, investor interest, podcast invites… having a strong personal presence online can open doors for both you and your business. It makes it easier for people to find you, and want to work with you.

“But I don’t like putting myself out there…”

Totally fair. Not everyone wants to post selfies with motivational quotes or share what they had for breakfast. (Although, if you do — go off.)

The good news? Personal branding doesn’t have to mean being loud. Or salesy. Or fake. It just means showing up in a way that feels like you, consistently. If you prefer writing over video — cool, write LinkedIn posts. If you’re not into social media — maybe a monthly email update or guest articles are more your speed. Your brand = your rules.

Tip: Start with what feels doable. You don’t need to go viral. You just need to be present.

How to start building your personal brand (without getting overwhelmed)

1. Figure out your themes
What do you care about? What insights can you share from your experience? Your personal brand doesn’t have to be all business all the time — people love hearing about leadership lessons, mistakes you’ve made, what you’re learning, or what you’re passionate about outside of work.

2. Choose your platform
Where does your audience hang out? For most B2B leaders, LinkedIn is the go-to. But Instagram, podcasts, blogs or even TikTok (yes, even for CEOs) can work too — as long as it makes sense for you and your audience.

3. Be consistent — not constant
You don’t need to post daily. Honestly, even showing up a couple of times a month with thoughtful content can make a difference. The key is consistency — so people know what to expect from you.

4. Don’t overthink it
Your content doesn’t need to be groundbreaking. It just needs to sound like you. Something that took you 10 minutes to write might be the thing that resonates most. Perfection is overrated — authenticity is where it’s at.
